How to Connect Charging Cables for the 12V Battery in a Mitsubishi Outlander 2013 (Plug-in Hybrid)

The 12V battery in a Mitsubishi Outlander 2013 (plug-in hybrid) is used to power the car’s electrical systems when the main battery is not in use. If the 12V battery dies, you will not be able to start the car or use any of the electrical accessories.

If your 12V battery dies, you can jump-start it using the cables from another car. Here are the steps on how to do it:

  1. Park the two cars on a level surface.
  2. Turn off all electrical accessories in both cars.
  3. Locate the 12V batteries in both cars. The 12V battery in the Outlander is located in the trunk, on the left side, near the rear wheel well.
  4. Disconnect the negative (-) cable first, then the positive (+) cable from the dead battery.
  5. Connect the positive (+) cable from the good battery to the positive (+) terminal of the dead battery.
  6. Connect the negative (-) cable from the good battery to the negative (-) terminal of the dead battery, but make sure it does not touch the other battery terminal.
  7. Start the car with the good battery and let it run for a few minutes.
  8. Disconnect the cables in the reverse order you connected them.
  9. Start your car and let it run for a few minutes to allow the 12V battery to charge.

Here are some safety precautions to keep in mind when connecting charging cables:

  • Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with batteries.
  • Make sure the donor car is turned off before connecting the cables.
  • Do not connect the cables if the batteries are touching.
  • Disconnect the cables in the reverse order you connected them.

If you are not comfortable connecting the charging cables yourself, you can take your car to a qualified mechanic.
