What to do when your cat has a fat lump

If you notice a fat lump on your cat, it’s important to take them to the vet to have it checked out. Fat lumps, also known as lipomas, are common in cats and are usually harmless. However, it’s always best to rule out any other possible causes, such as a tumor or an infection.

The vet will be able to examine the lump and determine if it’s a lipoma. If it is, they may recommend that you just keep an eye on it and monitor its size. If the lump grows or changes in appearance, the vet may recommend removing it.

Here are some things you can do at home to help your cat while they’re waiting to see the vet:

  • Keep the area clean and dry.
  • Avoid rubbing or scratching the lump.
  • Feed your cat a healthy diet to help keep their weight down.

If you’re concerned about your cat’s fat lump, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and take them to the vet. The vet will be able to give you peace of mind and make sure that your cat is healthy.

Here are some additional tips for taking care of your cat with a fat lump:

  • If the lump is large or painful, your vet may recommend that you restrict your cat’s activity to help prevent it from getting worse.
  • If the lump is located in an area where your cat can easily scratch it, you may need to put a cone on them to prevent them from doing so.
  • Be sure to monitor the lump regularly for any changes in size, shape, or color. If you notice any changes, contact your vet immediately.

With proper care, most cats with fat lumps live long and healthy lives.
